Marvel Sends Rocket Raccoon Back to His Roots With Oversized 50th Anniversary Special
Marvel announced Rocket Raccoon: Rocket Rewind #1, an oversized anniversary one-shot hitting shelves July 29th to celebrate 50 years of everyone's favorite heavily armed space raccoon. The special issue packs in three all-new stories plus a reprint of Rocket's original debut by co-creators Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen. Ryan Stegman provides the main cover, with variants by David Baldeón and Mike Mignola.
The three new Rocket stories are:
J.M. DeMatteis and Shawn McManus send Rocket on a mind-bending encounter with a mysterious galactic book collector that leads to an unexpected face-to-face with Rocky Raccoon, Rocket's original name from his first appearance, complete with his inexplicable British accent.
MacKenzie Cadenhead and Enid Balám drop Rocket onto a paradise planet where a powerful artifact is just sitting there waiting to be stolen in a story called "BoomShakaLaka."
Christos Gage and Todd Nauck team Rocket up with Hank Pym for an odd-couple adventure in Sub-Atomica, battling a massive invasion force in a story called "The Fight in the Raccoon."
"Fans of Rocket Raccoon are going to love this special featuring all-new stories that span through his bold, adventurous, and sassy career," said editor Mark Pannicia. "I'm excited to include the first appearance of Rocky Raccoon. That's right, old bean, in that story by legendary comic creators Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen, Rocket went by Rocky and inexplicably had a British accent. Wild and fun stuff!"
