New Action Figure Reveals Monica Rambeau’s Likely MCU Superhero Identity
When we last saw Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris, in the MCU in the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision, she had just received her powers and was not yet quite ready for a superhero identity. Fast forward 2.5 years and Monica will finally be getting an alias when she makes triumphant return, this time on the big screen, in November when Marvel’s The Marvels hits theaters.
Thanks to IGN’s release of images from Hasbro’s new Marvel Legends action figures, we now have a pretty good guess as to what her alias will most likely be….PHOTON!
Although she has been recently going by her Spectrum alias in the comics ever since 2013’s Mighty Avengers #1, it appears the MCU has decided to bring back a different alias. In the Marvel Comics, Maria Rambeau, the mother of Monica Rambeau, used the callsign "Photon" during her time as a pilot. This callsign has also served as an homage to Maria Rambeau in the MCU’s Captain Marvel, where Maria, portrayed by Lashana Lynch, is a skilled pilot who goes by the callsign "Photon" as well.
Monica Rambeau first took on the Photon alias in Avengers #267, which was published in 1986. In that issue, Monica officially became a member of the Avengers and started using the name Photon as her superhero identity. She continued to use the name for a significant period before transitioning to Pulsar and then Spectrum in future storylines.
