New ‘Infernal Hulk Vs.’ One-Shots Pave the Way for Hulk War

Marvel announced Infernal Hulk Vs., a series of one-shots from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson that spins out of his and Nic Klein's Infernal Hulk run and sets up the Hulk War crossover event arriving in early 2027. The line kicks off in September with Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1, drawn by Marvel Stormbreaker Jonas Scharf, and runs monthly through December. The first issue features a cover by Nic Klein with variants by Juan Ferreyra and Ryan Stegman.

Following Infernal Hulk #10 in August, the series transforms into these one-shots, billed as the penultimate chapters of the Infernal Saga. With the ancient evil called the Eldest in control of the Hulk's body, the Infernal Hulk goes after Marvel's heroes one at a time, beating each into a corrupted, monstrous champion for his growing army and inching closer to remaking the Marvel Universe in his own image.

The opening chapter runs through Wolverine. When the X-Men discover where Infernal Hulk is holding mutants he's abducted and twisted to his side, Logan sets out to free them by whatever brutal means the job demands, putting the Father of Horrors against the deadliest X-Man there is.

"MARCH TO HULK WAR kicks off the final act of our story that Nic Klein and I started with Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023," said Johnson. "It's a series of one-shot battles between Infernal Hulk and Earth's mightiest heroes, as Hulk gathers his terrifying Infernal Avengers for HULK WAR. The one-shots features one of the most epic rivalries in comics, INFERNAL HULK VS WOLVERINE, and an ending that I'm expecting to shock some people."

Johnson also flagged how far the books are willing to push. "The most fun aspect of this series were rereading old Marvel battles, reminding myself what's been done and how hard we've been willing to go in the past," he said. "Be advised: there were discussions about how violent we could go with these one-shots. I want to keep ramping up the horror vibe of the Hulk series, and for our readers to see things in these one-shots they've never seen before. On both counts, I promise we'll deliver."
