Possible SPIDER-MAN: REIGN Sequel Teased by Marvel

The official Spider-Man Instagram account, run by Marvel, teased a new Spidey series is about to be announced and, based on the artwork, all signs point to it being a sequel to SPIDER-MAN: REIGN. The teaser art bares a striking resemblance to artwork from the 2006-2007 limited series written & illustrated by Kaare Andrews. That four-issue series features a retired Spider-Man 30 years in the future of Earth-70237.

While the original series received a generally positive reception, it wasn’t without controversy. Notably, the first printing of the first issue was recalled over concern that Peter Parker’s genitals were visible in a panel. In addition, the story mentions Mary Jane died from cancer she developed due to radiation exposure from having sex with Peter over the years.

What stories might a sequel tell? Is the teaser even for a SPIDER-MAN: REIGN sequel? As Marvel mentioned, we’ll need to stay tuned!
