Preview: The Avengers Could Be Torn Apart in ‘Avengers: Armageddon’ #4

Marvel revealed covers and story details for Avengers: Armageddon #4 and Captain America #15, both arriving this September. Both issues are written by Chip Zdarsky. Avengers: Armageddon #4 (of 5) is on sale September 16 with a main cover by Dike Ruan and a variant by Jeehyung Lee. Captain America #15 is on sale September 2 with art and cover by Valerio Schiti. Check out these covers below!

The Armageddon event pits the Avengers against Red Hulk, who has seized control of Latveria with his eyes on the rest of the world. The team is defying the United Nations to fight him, and by issue #4 the conflict has a new and unstable variable. David Colton, a Captain America from Zdarsky's Captain America run, recently gained abilities that rival the Sentry. He’s now unpredictable enough to push the fight past the point of no return and split the Avengers at the worst possible moment.

"Anyone reading Captain America knows his origins are filled with tragedy and bloodshed, which has kept him off the table for years, away in the woods," Zdarsky told Marvel.com. "So he's had a lot of time to see the rise of superpowers and a new kind of super-combat, which he may have opinions on..."

Meanwhile, Captain America #15 picks up the parallel storyline running through Zdarsky and Schiti's current Captain America arc, which kicks off with issue #12 later this month. After Steve Rogers is defeated by Red Hulk, his soul ends up trapped in Hell. Getting back to Earth means forging an uneasy alliance with Doctor Doom and taking on Mephisto directly.
