Rick Remender and Steve Epting Team Up for New Crime-Horror Series ‘Hammerfist’
Image Comics announced Hammerfist, a new ongoing series from writer Rick Remender and artist Steve Epting, with colors by Matt Hollingsworth. The series follows Mike Denton, a low-level hitman and addict who has spent his life taking the easy way out at the expense of everyone around him, including his daughter. When an ancient darkness called Black Noon threatens to consume all light in the world, Mike has to pull himself out of the gutter, unlock a supernatural weapon fueled by love, and become the one thing standing between humanity and oblivion.
"Hammerfist is for people who grew up on those unhinged genre films of the VHS era, over-the-top, hard-R, wildly original, but never forgetting to be fun," said Remender. "A hardboiled crime story that mutates into an ultra-violent, Raimi-style horror story following a low-rent killer who becomes the only thing standing between us and eternal darkness. Getting to see it come to life in the hands of a master like Steve Epting is a dream come true."
"Collaborating with Rick on Hammerfist has been incredible," said Epting. "The book is unpredictable, gritty and funny. A hardboiled crime story that mutates into fever-dream horror without ever losing the heart underneath. There's real emotion under all the blood and chaos; we just take the most violent road possible to get there."
Hammerfist #1 is on sale August 26. Covers for issue #1 are by Epting, Jerome Opeña, Nic Klein, Dan Panosian, Andrew Robinson, a blank sketch cover, and a foil variant of Robinson's cover.
