Marvel Sends Spider-Man and Punisher Back to the Beginning in New Series

Marvel Comics will publish Punisher vs. Spider-Man, a five-issue limited series written by Dan Abnett and illustrated by Matteo Della Fonte.

Picking up shortly after the Punisher's debut clash with Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man #129, the series takes a look back at the rocky beginnings of Frank Castle and Peter Parker's relationship. The two are pulled back together by someone from Castle's past, though their uneasy alliance is always one argument away from imploding.

"I'm very happy to be writing these two characters in a head-to-head together, and to be revisiting the Punisher, a character I haven't written since YEAR ONE in the nineties," says Abnett. "The series is a whole lot of fun and full of big action, and some genuine surprises as they learn stuff about each other for the first time. That's the real joy of going back to this pivotal early point in continuity: there's a freshness in their encounters and interactions that I think readers are really going to get a kick out of."

Punisher vs. Spider-Man #1 features a main cover by Jonas Scharf and a variant cover by Netho Diaz. Fans can also look for the Amazing Spider-Man #129 Facsimile Edition [New Printing] in comic shops this July.

Punisher vs. Spider-Man #1 (of 5) goes on sale July 15.
