SDCC 2025 Days 2 & 3 Recap: Marvel Comics
Friday and Saturday held the House of Ideas’ most anticipated panels: Marvel Fanfare with C.B. Cebulski, MARVEL COMICS: Next Big Thing, and MARVEL COMICS: Ultimate Universe. While there may not have been any earth-shattering revelations, there was still plenty shared to keep fans excited throughout 2025. Here are some of the biggest Marvel Comics news items from Days 2 & 3 of San Diego Comic-Con:
NEW DEADPOOL/BATMAN #1 COVERS
While technically not at one of their own panels (these were shared at the Retailer Panel), Marvel revealed new variant covers for their portion of the hotly anticipated Marvel/DC crossover event coming in September. Leading the way was Russell Dauterman’s homage to George Pérez’s Infinity Gauntlet #1, as well as variants by Daniel Warren Johnson and Frank Miller.
Perhaps even bigger news than the covers themselves, Marvel revealed Miller will also write and draw one of the backup stories featuring Old Man Logan and Batman from The Dark Knight Returns.
CAPTAIN AMERICA TAKES ON XENOMORPHS
Following the critically acclaimed Aliens Vs. Avengers limited series from Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, Marvel will continue the crossover with Alien Vs. Captain America from wrtier Frank Tieri and artist Stefano Raffaele. The four-issue limited series begins 11/5 with a main cover Leinil Francis Yu and a foil variant by Dan Panosian.
Here’s a synopsis from Marvel:
It's World War II and Hydra seeks a new weapon to defeat the Allies and win the war. To that end, the Red Skull has sent Baron Strucker on an expedition to the Himalayas to find the fabled city of Attilan. But instead of finding the Inhumans, Strucker uncovers something much more deadly. Much more... Alien. Can Captain America and the Howling Commandoes stop the Skull and his newfound xenomorph weapons... or will the First Avenger learn that in war-torn Europe... no one can hear you scream?
CAPTAIN AMERICA WILL LITERALLY SAVE AMERICA
J. Michael Straczynski will be joined by artists Ron Lim and Sean Damien Hill for 1776, a five-part miniseries launching in November where Captain America must save the birth of America from a time-altering threat. The series is meant to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday which will occur in 2026.
ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM WILL CREATE A POWER VACUUM
November’s One World Under Doom #9 will be the finale to writer Ryan North and artist R.B. Silva’s year-long event, but the ramifications will be felt throughout the Marvel comic universe long after it wraps up. In a cover reveal during the NEXT BIG THING panel, Marvel teased Doom’s fall from power. Check out Ben Harvey’s haunting art below and Marvel’s synopsis for the upcoming issue:
Doom has confronted all of Earth’s heroes in battle – and he’s won. What’s more, he’s used the magical power of Sorcerer Supreme to ensure that this victory has become a fixed moment in time: a thing that will stand forever, impervious to magic or time travel alike. But unbeknownst to Doom, in that climatic moment that can now never be changed, the seeds of Doom’s downfall were also fixed for all eternity. Left with an intolerable defeat that cannot be changed, Doom makes a choice he can never undo – and the rest of the world will pay his price...
BUT…Marvel then teased that a NEW Sorcerer Supreme will rise and the succession process will begin in December. Who could it be?!? While Marvel isn’t saying (for now), we’ve got a look at a few candidates in promo art by Devmalya Pramanik.
IMPERIAL ONE-SHOTS GET NEW ONGOING SERIES
With the previously announced Imperial one-shots quickly approaching, Marvel revealed that all five stories will be getting picked up as ongoing series starting with Planet She-Hulk by Stephanie Phillips and Aaron Kuder and Nova: Centurion by Jed MacKay and Álvaro López this November.
Synopsis for Planet She-Hulk #1:
She-Hulk is back, and she’s... stuck on Sakaar?? Jennifer Walters made a promise to her cousin, Hulk, to watch over the planet Sakaar and its people for a few days. But it’s been longer than a few days, and now She-Hulk is in charge of keeping the peace on a planet at war! But Jennifer is a VERY different Hulk than the one that once smashed Sakaar into submission…is she up for the task?
Synopsis for Nova: Centurion #1:
With the Xandarian Worldmind, the sentient repository of an entire extinct people’s culture and history, relying on regular (and expensive) energy infusions, Richard Rider is for hire. A deep-space drifter weighed down with the truth of the terrible lie that the new Galactic Union was built upon, Nova is a corps of one. But how long can he keep his hands clean handling dirty money?
Additional details, including creative teams, for Black Panther: Intergalactic, Exiles, and Imperial Guardians will be announced soon.
JONATHAN HICKMAN CONFIRMS ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN IS ENDING
Ultimate Spider-Man #24 will be the finale to Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto’s historic run as confirmed at the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE panel, but the conclusion promises to open doors for future storytelling. I’m not sure anyone will be able to fill the void left by these two though. You can see Checchetto’s main cover for the final issue below.
Hickman also revealed that current The Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion writer Deniz Camp will write Ultimate Endgame along with artist Jonas Scharf. The five-issue event series sees the return of The Maker and characters from all five Ultimate series uniting to defeat to him. Check out Derrick Chew’s foil variant cover for Ultimate Endgame #1 below.
