The Mask Comes Off in ‘Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer’
Image Comics and Tiny Onion revealed Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer, a five-issue limited series from writer Che Grayson and artist Adam Gorham, with colors by Jordie Bellaire and letters by Becca Carey, arriving this September.
Grayson and Gorham first worked together on the fourth issue of Exquisite Corpses Season One, which staged a confrontation between the masked, blade-wielding assassin and Lady Carolina. This new series digs into where the character came from. Among hired killers, a handful are dreaded even by other assassins, and Fox Mask Killer sits near the front of that pack. What she wants now is the one thing out of reach, an exit from the life, and the only figure who can hand her that chance might be more dangerous than anyone she has faced.
"From the moment James and Michael welcomed me into the world of Exquisite Corpses, I knew It was something special," said Grayson. "I gravitated instantly to Fox Mask Killer, a character whose design alone provoked a rich backstory and undeniable aura. The biggest treat for me as a writer was the challenge of bringing depth to a character whose face readers would never see…until now. With this new limited series, the mask finally comes off, and I couldn't be more excited to team up again with my best mate Adam alongside stellar talents Jordie and Becca. This is a dream project for me and I think fans of Fox Mask Killer and the Exquisite Corpses series are going to be very happy with the high stakes and even higher emotions thrill ride we have her on."
"I'm thrilled about returning to the blood-thirsty world of Exquisite Corpses," said Gorham. "The experience on Season One of the series was so fun and unique. My first issue, which brought Che and I together, focused on Fox Mask and Lady Carolina, and in the end it was clear to everyone involved that there was much more to explore with those characters. So here we are! Che and the 'Onions' have cracked a dynamite story filled with brutal action and razor sharp characters, and I have the great pleasure to draw it all."
The book is one of several spinoffs branching out from the James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh horror series. Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy, from Tyler Boss, Dylan Burnett, Bellaire, and Carey, lands first in July, while a third miniseries, Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman, comes from Pornsak Pichetshote and Alberto Ponticelli. An anthology one-shot, Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead, is set to precede Season Two, and a film adaptation is in the works at Tiny Onion and Lyrical Media.
