The Most Unsettling Bunny in Comics Gets His Own Origin Story in ‘Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy’
Image Comics announced Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy, a five-issue limited series from writer Tyler Boss and artist Dylan Burnett, arrives July 8th. The series is colored by Eisner Award winner Jordie Bellaire and lettered by Becca Carey. Produced by Tiny Onion, the series explores the origin of Rascal Randy, the bunny-suited killer who became a fan favorite in Exquisite Corpses Season One, digging into the history of the character behind the mascot head and the sleepy upstate New York town where it all began.
Here’s the full series overview from the publisher:
“The sleepy little town of Aurora Springs, NY, has exactly one claim to fame: it’s the birthplace of Rascal Randy. Not the man in the suit—that man has never mattered. He was no one until he put the mascot head on for the first time… not until he felt the life leave someone’s body with his thickly furred gloves wrapped around them.
No, Aurora Springs is the birthplace of Rascal Randy the rabbit, who, once upon a time, was poised to become the greatest animated character this country had ever seen—until greed and tragedy changed his trajectory forever.
Witness the events before season one of Exquisite Corpses that made Rascal Randy New Jersey’s selection for America’s deadliest game. When chaos comes hopping into town, the secret sordid history of Rascal Randy will finally be revealed.”
Issue #1 features covers by Burnett, Boss, and a polybag variant by Michael Walsh that comes packaged with a collectible trading card tied to the upcoming Exquisite Corpses: The Game Kickstarter launching this May. Incentive variants are by Javier Pulido, Riley Rossmo, and Brett Bean. Check them out below!
Rascal Randy is the first of three planned spinoff limited series from the Exquisite Corpses universe, alongside Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer and Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman, plus an anthology one-shot titled Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead and an already-in-development feature film adaptation.
"From the moment I saw the full cast of killers for Exquisite Corpses, I, like most discerning readers, knew Randy would be the winner of the first season's game," said Boss. "Now while I still can't say whether we've been proven correct or not, I can say the story Dylan and I have created for everyone's favorite furry fiend is as sweet and cuddly as a porcupine."
"Bullies, homework, crushes, solving a string of brutal and bizarre murders perpetrated by a weirdo in a giant rabbit costume... Ah, to be young again," added Burnett.
