Chip Zdarsky Is About to Change the Avengers Forever in ‘Avengers: Armageddon’ #1

Marvel shared a first look at Avengers: Armageddon #1, the new event series from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, arriving June 10th. The series draws threads from Zdarsky's ongoing Captain America run, One World Under Doom, Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, and more, bringing them together in a story centered on Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross as Red Hulk and his stranglehold on Latveria. Readers looking for a prelude to the event can pick up Armageddon/X-Men #1 on Comics Giveaway Day, May 2, at participating comic shops.

The new preview reveals a sweeping lineup of Marvel heroes pulled into the conflict, including the Fantastic Four, Wolverine, Bucky Barnes, Namor, and newly introduced Captain America David Colton, as well as a glimpse at Ross' terrifying new Hulk squad. When the dust settles, a brand-new Avengers lineup takes shape, including a mystery hero with abilities unlike anything seen in the team's history.

"It's going to be pretty fractured, but when things are looking dark, someone will always step up," said Zdarsky. "But what they'll face will be wildly unexpected. Man, oh man, I'm pretty excited for people to see where we're going!"

The issue’s main cover is by Dike Ruan, with variants by Jerome Opeña, Skottie Young, Zdarsky himself, Kaare Andrews, Jenny Frison, Alex Ross, Marco Checchetto, and Ryan Stegman. Every first printing will also include an exclusive Magic: The Gathering promo card featuring art by Stegman.
