‘Fantastic Four’ Celebrates 65 Years with a Wild Ride Through Time
Marvel announced Fantastic Four #15, an oversized 65th anniversary issue from writer Ryan North and artist Humberto Ramos, arriving August 5th. The issue marks six and a half decades since Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben first appeared in 1961's Fantastic Four #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the book widely credited with launching the modern Marvel Universe.
To mark the occasion, North and Ramos are sending the team on a time-spanning adventure in both directions at once, with the quartet stranded across different eras of their own history and desperately in need of a complete stranger's help to claw their way back to the present. If they make it, something deadly is already waiting for them. The anniversary issue also weaves in classic moments from the team's history, incorporating work by Jack Kirby, John Buscema, John Byrne, and Steve Epting alongside North and Ramos's new story. The main cover is by Ramos, with foil variant by Marcos Martin and an additional variant by Kris Anka.
Also on sale August 5th is Fantastic Four: 65 Years of the World's Greatest Comic Covers, a special gallery issue collecting over 700 Fantastic Four covers alongside commentary from creators past and present.
"Fantastic Four is a comic that matters like few others in the medium, so it's been a real honour to get to write both our 700th issue, and now this, our 65th anniversary special," said North. "For this oversized issue we tell a story that runs across time — in two directions at once — while also getting to see the true effect the Fantastic Four have had on their world, and each other. It's got sci-fi, it's got relationships, it's got thrills and chills and fun and adventure and... wait, it says here it's also got a major turning point in Johnny's moustache? That can't be right, can it??"
"To commemorate the Fantastic Four's 65th year of publication, Ryan North and Humberto Ramos are taking the team back in time — both figuratively and literally!" said executive editor Tom Brevoort. "And because this is an anniversary issue, the story will also incorporate some classic moments by key FF creators of the past, including Jack Kirby, John Buscema, John Byrne and Steve Epting — all seen with a new wrinkle added."
