Review: ‘Moonshine Bigfoot’ #1

If you mixed the Dukes of Hazard, Cannonball Run, the X-Files, & American Dad, put it all in jug to ferment for a bit, then uncorked it to pour out a glass to drink you’d get exactly what Zach Howard & Mike Marlow are cooking up in MOONSHINE BIGOOT.

The first issue is basically an extended car chase across Buzzard County, a stand-in for any backwoods town in the American Southeast, which serves as a means of introducing characters, including the titular Moonshine Bigfoot and his girlfriend Amethyst. It’s an insanely clever way to get readers familiar with new faces and sets the tone for what the comic promises on it’s first page — “the greatest cryptozoological action-adventure-comedy of all time.” They weren’t lying!

The story’s adrenaline is aided by perfectly campy artwork. Character designs are exaggerated just enough to not be complete caricatures Action sequences look like they’re straight out of a 90s action cartoon.

Overall, this was a completely captivating debut that is different from anything else on comic book shelves right now. I’m very much excited for the remaining 3 issues of this miniseries & would definitely recommend jumping in on this joyride — Moonshine Bigfoot is more fun than should be allowed in one comic!
