Review: ‘RoboWolf’ #1

Get ready for a wild ride in RoboWolf #1, the new series from creator Jake Smith & Dark Horse Comics! The debut issue kicks off w/ the titular anti-hero, RoboWolf, & his motley crew on a bank robbing mission in order to deliver a fat stack of stolen cash to the evil General Masakov. But there’s a catch - the General has RoboWolf’s daughter hostage, & the team will need to navigate the treacherous streets of Sunset Hills to get to her before it’s too late.

The debut issue lays out the series’ plot in a non-stop thrill ride of action-packed adventure, w/ Smith’s signature art style perfectly capturing the frenetic energy of his story. The panel-bursting action sequences are impressive, w/ each page turn revealing a new stunt, fight sequence, or humorous quip. The characters leap off the page, becoming instantly entertaining & memorable, w/ RoboWolf’s personality shining through amidst the chaos. He’s not winning father of the year anytime soon, but deep down he cares about the people he loves.

Smith’s art style is a perfect match for this over-the-top tale, w/ bold lines, vibrant colors, & dynamic panel layouts bringing the mayhem to life. He uses the comic medium to maximum effect to convey the energy & intensity of the this new world.

If you’re a fan of 80s & 90s pop culture, particularly the likes of TMNT or Transformers, you’ll love this comic. Overall, RoboWolf #1 is a fantastic debut issue that sets the stage for a wildly entertaining series!
