Review: ‘Moonshine Bigfoot’ #2

This follow-up issue delivers another dose of over-the-top, self-aware silliness that left a huge smile on my face. The entire creative team has truly hit the ground running, maintaining a balance of engaging storytelling & bombastic visuals that made the debut issue so captivating.

This issue takes it up a notch by diving deeper into the characters, giving us depth beyond the caricature-esque intros we received, and pushing the plot forward with more focus on the series’ main villain. Amethyst, in particular, gets much more nuance, revealing she’s got a lot more brains & intuition beneath the initial, superficial impression. We also meet new characters who fit right in with the rest of the larger-than-life cast, including the Dr. Murica — a bombastically comical riff on one Hulk Hogan.

What shines through is the team’s clear understanding of what makes a great comic book & their steadfast efforts to give us just that. They’ve managed to craft a story that’s perfectly suited to the medium, with visuals & dialogue that work in tandem to create an unstoppable energy. The result is a story that’s impossible to imagine being replicated in any other format, whether that’s traditional books or visual mediums like tv or movies.

If you enjoyed the first issue, you won’t want to miss this one. The debut left big shoes (pun intended), but Moonshine Bigfoot #2 is more of the same awesome, w/ plenty of laughs, excitement, & pure entertainment. The creative team is cooking with gas, & I’m excited to see where they’ll go from here!
