Steve Skroce Creates a New Superhero Universe in ‘Tales of Wonder’
Skybound and Image Comics announced Tales of Wonder, a new limited series written and illustrated by Steve Skroce (We Stand on Guard, Wolverine, The Matrix Trilogy), with colors by Ian Herring (Ms. Marvel, The Shaolin Cowboy) and letters by Pat Brosseau (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero).
Tales of Wonder #1 is on sale September 2 for $3.99. The full cover lineup is below — check them out!
Two Golden Age comics creators, Stu and Jake, built a friendship in the trenches of World War II that turned out to be more durable than their creative partnership. As their Wonder Comics characters grew from pulp sensations into a global franchise, the disputes over credit and ownership drove them apart for decades. When they finally reunite to launch the America's Freedom Force cinematic universe, they get considerably more than they bargained for: the heroes and monsters they invented are real, and they have to set aside a lifetime of resentment long enough to help those heroes save the world.
"This is a story I've dreamt of telling for years. It's a tale about the many pitfalls of creative collaboration. When things go south, lifelong friendships can end and the axe grinding can last for decades," said Skroce. "Tales of Wonder is about finding your way back from that, it's about believing in a second chance to get things right, it's about the value of friendship, and it's all wrapped up in a full throttle, action packed Superhero adventure. I hope you dig it."
"Steve Skroce is a generational talent, and I'm beyond thrilled that his latest series is here at Skybound," said Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. "His poignant tale of two Golden Age comic book creators as they face their greatest creations, literally, is a tale for the ages!"
