The Muppets Are Coming to the Marvel Universe

Marvel announced The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1, a one-shot bringing together the Muppets and the Marvel Universe for the first time, timed to the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show. The issue features stories from Chip Zdarsky, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, Ashley Allen, and Kyle Starks, with art by Pete Woods, David Baldeon, Áthila Fabbio, E.J. Su, Paco Medina, and Mike Henderson.

The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 is on sale September 23 with a main cover by Nick Bradshaw, a foil variant by Humberto Ramos, a Ron Lim variant, a Logo Mashup variant, and a Muppet Treasure Island 30th Anniversary variant by Matteo Lolli. Additional Muppet variant covers will also roll out across select September titles, with further details to be announced. Check them out below!

The issue packs in five stories:

Zdarsky and Woods open the book when Mojo kidnaps Rowlf the Dog to anchor his new streaming service, forcing an unlikely alliance between Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and Deadpool to rescue him.

Starks and Henderson set Bruce Banner and Hank Pym loose inside Muppet Labs, where Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker have arranged a joint experiment involving Gamma Rays and Pym Particles. The results are exactly as disastrous as you'd expect.

Allen and Medina bring the Swedish Chef in as the unlikeliest possible doctor when Clea is struck down by a mystical virus that Doctor Strange can't cure.

Cadenhead and Baldeon launch Pigs in Space into deep space collision with Rocket Raccoon and Groot, sending Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork into full cosmic chaos.

Additional stories from Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, E.J. Su, and Áthila Fabbio round out the issue.

"With the great power of two iconic properties comes great responsibility. I promise to not let down Kermit, Fozzie and Animal the way Spider-Man let down his Uncle Ben," Zdarsky joked.

"It's impossible to overstate how excited I was to write for Miss Piggy, whom I consider to be one of the greatest icons of the last hundred years, a character who speaks to every generation. I also got to write Deadpool," he continued. "And Pete Woods is turning in the most stunning, detailed and joyous pages. Seeing his take on these characters interacting is a real delight."

"It has been exciting for The Muppets Studio to collaborate with Marvel Comics in a new and unique way to bring the personality, humor and mayhem of The Muppets into the Marvel Universe and vice versa," said Leigh Slaughter, Vice President of The Muppets Studio. "To do this during the 50th anniversary year of 'The Muppet Show' makes this project even more meaningful."
